Wing Foil Spots
Flat water, steady wind — the perfect foiling playground
Lagoa de Obidos
Ideal Foil ConditionsThe lagoon is the ideal wing foil playground. Five kilometres of flat water means you can focus entirely on your foil technique without worrying about waves knocking you off balance. The consistent thermal wind blows across the lagoon every afternoon, and the shallow, sandy bottom makes every crash completely safe.
Whether you are pumping up onto the foil for the first time or linking long gliding runs, this is the kind of spot that accelerates your progression faster than anywhere else. Flat water is the single biggest factor in learning to foil, and this lagoon delivers it every session.
Foiling Conditions
Built for Foiling
Flat water means faster progression on foil. Every minute you spend on the water is productive because the surface is glassy and predictable. No waves breaking your rhythm, no swell throwing off your balance.
The lagoon has a dedicated wing zone separate from the kite area, so you have space to ride without worrying about lines overhead. A deeper section is available for experienced foilers who want longer, uninterrupted runs. And if something goes wrong, the rescue boat is always nearby.
Other Wing Foil Spots
Foz do Arelho
Where the lagoon meets the ocean. Ocean swell combined with side-shore wind makes for incredible downwind foiling runs. This is a spot for experienced foilers who are comfortable in open water with currents and waves.
Peniche / Baleal
Ocean wave spot with powerful Atlantic swell. A 20-minute drive from The Lodge. Strong side-shore wind and open ocean conditions make it ideal for experienced foilers looking for downwind runs or wave foiling.
São Martinho do Porto
A sheltered, almost enclosed bay 15 minutes south. Great for light-wind foiling sessions when the lagoon thermals are not strong enough. The bay's shape funnels and accelerates lighter breezes, making it a reliable backup spot.
Wind & Foiling Season
Thermal Season
The prime foiling season. Reliable afternoon thermals from the north, 15 to 25 knots, almost every day. Warm water, long days, and consistent conditions make this the best time to learn wing foiling or progress your skills. The Lodge runs its wing camps during this period.
Storm Season
Atlantic storms bring powerful but less predictable wind. The lagoon still works well on south-wind days. Experienced foilers can find amazing downwind conditions at Foz do Arelho when the swell lines up. Wetsuits required. Fewer people, quieter sessions.
